The Future of Global Health Depends on Solidarity: Health workers and communities are leading the way—institutions must follow

New Delhi, September 22-23, 2025 – Experts, youth leaders, grassroots activists, researchers, funders, and representatives from civil society from India, Nepal, and beyond called on global institutions to put solidarity at the heart of health systems, warning that resilience cannot be achieved through top-down strategies alone.

From Despair to Collective Action: Reflections from the Global Health Solidarity Open Forum 2025

 

26 June 2025- The Global Health Solidarity Open Forum took place on June 25, 2025, under the theme A Solidarity of the Shaken? From Despair to Collective Action’. The virtual gathering brought together over 150 attendees including researchers, civil society organisations and activists, practitioners, and scholars from 33 countries. The event aimed to explore how solidarity can shape responses to global health challenges amid shifting political and funding landscapes. 

3rd Global Team Meeting In Oxford, United Kingdom On 11th July 2024.

The Moving Beyond Solidarity Rhetoric in Global Health project held its third global team meeting on 11th July 2024 at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. This one-day hybrid event included partners and representatives from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Australia. The project’s Principal Investigator, Dr. Atuire Caesar, opened the meeting by presenting the overall progress.

Global Health Solidarity at the 17th World Congress of Bioethics in Doha, Qatar.

Two members of our team, Dr. Samuel Asiedu (Research Coordinator) and Prof. Elysee Nouvet (Co-investigator) represented the Moving Beyond Solidarity Rhetoric in Global Health research team at the 17th World Congress of Bioethics in Doha, Qatar.  

Professor Caesar Atuire Elected President of the International Association of Bioethics (IAB)

Dr. Caesar Atuire’s election as President of the International Association of Bioethics (IAB) was announced at the World Congress of Bioethics in Doha, Qatar on 3rd June 2024. Atuire becomes the 15th president of the IAB and the first black person to be appointed to this position. 

During his inaugural address, Dr. Atuire said, “The current world in which we are living is different from the world within which bioethics as a discipline was born...perhaps we need to we reinvent in order to address the challenges of this world in the next decades” 

Moving Beyond Solidarity Rhetoric In Global Health Project Second Global Meeting

 

The Moving Beyond Solidarity Rhetoric in Global Health Project research team held its Second Global Team In-Person Meeting at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort in Elmina, Ghana, from 22nd to 25th November 2023. The meeting was a fruitful opportunity for the team to consolidate the knowledge and experience from the Anglophone Africa Regional Workshop, evaluate the project journey for the year 2023, and plan the project activities for 2024-2026.
